People have been relying on multi-vitamins for years now. Seems wise… cannot or refuse to eat healthy, so you think, “I’ll just take a bunch of vitamins… that’s all we want from food anyways, right?”
So. Your biggest problem is that you are somehow believing that by simply increasing nutrient density, you are gaining the advantage that you hope for from food, in the form of vitamins. Sadly, the days of kwashiokor, rickets, beri-beri and scurvey are gone. I say sadly, because if that was all we were worried about, then you would do absolutely fantastic with this new found mentality of vitamin supplementation. But because your need is now to reduce inflammation, balance an immune system, and halt the progress of cancer, your need for wise supplementation has increased tenfold, but only after you first consume healthy food like there is no option.
But, I know, it is hard to get on the right train. Especially when you have no idea these bad things are happening inside of you. Have you ever stopped to look at how symptom-free disease is? Cancer, heart disease, diabetes… all as silent as a Ninja until its too late. The advice from our camp is always to go after health before you are forced to do so. It is typically too late at that point in time.
So why do we really need to get something more than a multivitamin?

You will notice everything that ends in an -ase in the diagram, these are enzymes, and though in the krebs cycle, you primarily conjugate (make) these enzymes in the body, you utilize building blocks that are more readily found in whole food, and not in supplement. However, in addition to these enzymes, your body uses a myriad of enzymes in every single bio-chemical process. Many of these enzymes or their “prime” building blocks, can be found in foods. Whole foods.
It is for this reason that we look at multivitamins as mostly useless. Providing the base nutrition that prevents the main diseases of deficiency from the turn of the century, yet absent of all of the unique, yet extremely important enzymes for all bodily functions. In addition, a myriad of glyco or phyto nutrients have been identified over the last decade. The demonstration of dysfunction is that anywhere around 1,000 basic compounds that are present in a simple fruit or vegetable, are completely ignored in most supplements.
Again, it is for this reason that you need to constantly push towards eating real food. But it is also why when you cannot, you should push towards consuming your supplement to nutrition in the form of a food labeled supplement. Juice plus is just that, and it is why I am sold out on it being the best. It is simply food. Juiced. Dehydrated.
So the next time you see an article about how good a food, or supplement is… consider how good it is to get the whole food in. And get the benefits of all the vitamins, minerals, phyto nutrients and enzymes.
