You may have noticed there is a lot going on around the office right now. Demolition of old, with the development of the new, historically relevant, yet new. I have a lot of people ask me what I think of all of it, and I am completely for it. I moved to Main Street because I was aware that the city had made a plan for future development towards the roundabout, and I love the idea of having more retail around my office… more accessibility, and more opportunity.
You don’t stand in the way of city growth. It has never worked. In any growing city, economics are in the lead. All I have ever seen is people fight how it is done, which usually results in doing it wrong. The natural selection that is driven by a free economy is exactly why America is America. So, with that being said, what is this Ice Cream Shack idea?
Well, I am partnering with somebody to turn our garage into a cafe. And with the start of that cafe (probably not until March of 2018), we will open an ice cream shack. Healthy ice cream? Well… has healthy as you can get for some, 60 Day Turnaround approved for others, and yet others that are just straight forward ice cream. But this brings me to a huge point.
Frozen Yogurt is worse for you than ice cream.
Let me re-iterate that with a few more descriptors. The average low fat frozen yogurt is significantly worse for you than the average ice cream. The reason comes right back to sugar. The average person in America is still acting out of marketed stupidity. Meaning, the marketing of “low-fat” has left so many people in a distressed situation where their bodies are absent of necessary fat, and the most common solution to the bland flavors of low fat, is high sugar. In addition, what we fail to realize is that fat serves as a much better blockage to absorption of sugar, and ultimate glycemic load, which ultimately leads to faster insulin resistance and increased inflammation.
So we are replacing fat for more sugar, which makes the other sugar even more readily absorbed, on top of the fact that we added more sugar too. Geez, what a mess. I hate low fat.
Thus… you are better off glycemically speaking, eating a bowl of ice cream, over a skim milk fruit on the bottom Dannon or Chobani or just about every other brand yogurt. So why eat the yogurt? I mean, ultimately, the idea of healthy eating needs to translate into truly healthy decisions, or you will cause the worst situations fathomable in the children of our country, while thinking you are being a better parent. And when the health fails earlier of the next generation, then the potential of that next generation fails with it. My strong desire is that you do not let the idea of healthy eating be driven by a commercial or the marketing on a box. Education requires effort… I know, I am sorry.
So the ice cream shack… bringing a healthy option along with traditional options, in hopes of providing an opportunity to softly educate people as to what is healthy, and what is not. The neat thing, is that you are looking at the ice cream shack when you park in the back and look out at a shed building that is believed to have been constructed in 1946 out of boards that were potentially harvested from the original train depot in Woodstock in 1913. This story is one that requires more research to try to determine the validity, however, it makes for a nice story regardless.
I look forward to finding ways to bring HealthSprout to the center of the North Downtown district, and in so doing, bring our education further into the community. God Bless you for your concern for your health. It is better than 5/6 of the population, and for that I am grateful.
