There are a lot of chiropractors out there. I recently had a patient family decide to move on to a different chiropractor. Though I feel like it is the wrong decision, the reasons why are very important, because they are very specific, and not what you might expect.
Sure, it is easy to feel like we do it best, or we have the best approach, best health leadership, or whatever. But that is just me thinking we are good. The reality, is that there is a much bigger concern here, a concern that is rooted in the fact that changing a spine, improving a spine takes serious commitment. Your commitment to your appointments, our commitment to staying the course regardless of your pain patterns. And the commitment to see it forward, for as long as it takes. A lifestyle of change.
Pain patterns? You sleep a certain way, it drives specific pain patterns. You sit at your desk and pain patterns emerge. Everything you do in pattern, elicits a pattern of pain. These however, are not necessarily the problems that cause your pain patterns.
The area above with the arrow, will most commonly exist with no pain for years prior to discovery. It will slowly degenerate, slowly protruding further and further into the meningeal sac, and eventually the spinal cord. Dysfunction in the tissues below that location that literally leads to death. Yet… the entire process is silent until the organ disease shows. Very rarely does the nerve that carries sensory information “act up” in time to stop the degeneration.
Therefore the only choice your chiropractor should have, is to IGNORE your pain patterns, and do everything in their capacity to STOP the degeneration. Restore curve, restore normal loading, stop the damage and save your life.
So when a patient says, “It was seeming kind of monotonous”, what I really want to say is “If you would do what I ask, if you would have made the appointments when you should have, and when you come here, if you would understand that it is not supposed to just be routine. Go back into that room and DO WORK, go get your head c-spine stretched out, go get your headweights on and work your posture, take it serious, there is something killing you just beneath the surface.”
Boy, wouldn’t that be loving? Not at all, and not very good at leadership… It is a fine line between sounding like an MD who tells you his drug is saving your life, and what we really should be saying here, but how else do we impress the importance? I guess the way is to write a daily sprout like this.
So over the next six weeks, as we are pressing in, to be the best partners in your health possible, I really hope you understand where we are coming from as we begin to remind you of the truth that lies at our fingers. We want the absolute best results for you, and will sacrifice the comfortable place, to focus on the reality.
So, back to the relief chiropractors of the world. If I were to adjust you, and never focus on that destruction of your spinal cord in the image above, what would I be doing for you? Lets say you came in, and had pain, and every time we adjusted your pain went away. It slipped back, but it flowed away for some time… would you start to think about your care as pain relief? Probably. And now, the problem, the serious problem, becomes no concern. Because it is silent. It is pain free, yet it is deadly. Just like cancer and heart disease.
We love to change spines, reduce destructive changes, and then keep them there. It is urgent, and everyone you know should be under some level of postural correction. That is what we do. You might as well invite them to see us! And, I think I should tell you, we’ll keep on loving you no matter how bad you are at doing what we ask… we just want to be successful at what we do. :)
