Pregnancy and Chiropractic Care
by: Dr. Sheyda Isazadeh
When women are expecting, their bodies go through many changes. Hormones flood the body in the first trimester. Feelings of tiredness start in first trimester and baby grows out of the pelvis by second trimester. As the baby grows, especially during third trimester, pressure on the low back and pelvis increases. This may aggravate pre-existing low back conditions. Through chiropractic care not only are the aches and pains treated naturally but realignment of the body ensures optimal development environment for the baby’s growth and a easy delivery. Symptoms experienced during pregnancy that chiropractic reduces include morning sickness, nausea, back pain, high blood pressure, and pelvic pain. The nervous system is at the source of the expressed systems and by removing subluxations, realigning the spine, and removing interferences in the nerves chiropractic can allow the body to function optimally for both the mother and the baby. In order for the baby to get into the birthing position, it is important for the mother’s pelvis to be aligned. Benefits of chiropractic care include increasing the lumbar curve, aligned pelvis, addresses colic, and breastfeeding.
Benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include:
-maintaining a healthy pregnancy
-controlling symptoms of nausea
-reducing labor time and delivery
-relieving joints back or neck pain
-preventing potential C-section delivery.
The Webster technique developed by Larry Webster restores proper motion of fixated sacral iliac joints, thus reducing tension on pelvic ligaments and muscles, maximizing Intra-uterine space and correcting breech position of a fetus. We have used this technique successfully many times over the years.
According to a study of women who are on the regular chiropractic care from at least the 10th week of pregnancy, the results show that through labor they experience significantly lower labor pains as compared to woman who are not receiving chiropractic care. Chiropractic neither adds to or takes from anything in the body in order to achieve results. By empowering the bodies ability to correct biomechanical abnormalities, chiropractic adjustments allow the female body to achieve the birthing process, naturally, without unnecessary intervention.
This is the key and the beauty to what we do, and how we assist the most amazing thing happening on the planet this day, as well as every other day of man’s existence. Birth.
