You weren’t made to need me. You, however, need me. I believe this about every single person on the planet. You are destroying your spine and don’t realize it, and thus you are killing yourself quietly and probably don’t know it. This is the state of most Americans because our culture breeds a condition of poor posture and technology has worsened the affliction so badly, that the average 12 year old child, has lost 50% of their cervical curve.
The loss of the curve is a horrible step in the direction of neurological compromise, as well as aggressive degenerative changes. The neck cannot last under this strain, and the slow, quiet degenerative change goes unnoticed without looking for it. Sadly, the medical professionals of our country think nothing of physics. There is no concern for the actual position of the neck… I would say “IDIOTS” at the top of my lungs, yet I get that they have never been trained to look at the body, as a creation of the maker of physics.
Think about it. Do you believe in creation? If not… do you believe in adaptation? OK, you must believe in one of these. So lets give you a good example first… either God made man to fit the food of the Earth, or man adapted to fit to the food of the Earth. One of those two is true to 95% of the people on the planet, I believe in creation so lets keep that one as the focus of our discussion. So if God created man and food to work together… would it not make sense that he did the same with physics. That the laws of the physical world, are designed, and likewise man is designed, so that the two can be in harmony. Once you stop and accept that reality, it makes it very easy to understand that there would be a position that would be resilient to the stresses of the Earth, and other positions that would be more likely to be damaged.
The cervical spine looks like this when it is working:
The curve protects the spine from unnecessary damage. The weight of the head is over the spine, and the structure handles momentary stresses well with that weight placed into the joints, and not overly on the discs. This is perfect. The spinal cord is in the back of the curve, which is a shorter distance (inside of a circle is a shorter distance than the outside), so in this position it is a more functional spine and spinal cord. Stop. A more functional SPINAL CORD… this is health, quiet, but slowly improving or deteriorating health.
Which is exactly what we see here – deteriorating health. A neck that cannot withstand the force of gravity, the spinal cord is being stretched, the discs are already degenerating (this is a young spine, 20’s), there are signs of degenerative changes in the vertebrae. This is the start of a serious problem, and it comes from one thing… bad posture.
The most common degenerative postural position, is looking at a device. Texting, or surfing, or whatever else you might be doing on your phone. Head down and forward, shoulders rounded… slowly altering your cervical curve until it looks less like the one on top, and more like the one on bottom. This is the way of the millenial. It is the way of our country.
Fight it. Device up, books up, laptop up, Watch the position you sit in or sleep in, always focus on getting your head up. It all starts there, but corrective chiropractic is currently the only way to fix the problem that I know of. Yoga… it might stop it, but won’t fix it. Same for pilates… it takes more to fix it. This is the reason for my opening statement. You need me, not some other doc or chiropractor who doesn’t focus on posture. And we will be here when you are ready to admit it.
