I am writing today to shed light on, and to raise money for the Lighthouse Retreat. My family has discussed serving on this retreat for the last five years and finally we are going to do it.
So, now I am asking everybody to donate to this cause, as I have decided that I would match whatever donations I can receive to other people’s light house retreat needs. My goal is $5k, but I don’t have a limit in mind, so if we go beyond that… cool. So will I. Let’s dig in.
I know many of you who will read this know what the Lighthouse retreat is, and many of you will have never heard of it. Their simple purpose –
Lighthouse Family Retreat serves families living through childhood cancer by creating seaside environments where they can rest, restore relationships, experience joy, and find hope in God.
The first time we read it, I had never directly served a family with a child with cancer. Nearly 350 cancer patients served at that time, and never had I served a child with cancer. Now, as my office continues to see patients with cancer everyday, I have had a chance to serve a child with cancer, and what was an intense desire to help, has only intensified. There is nothing quite as heart tearing, as working with a child to fight through such difficult times.
Consider this; even if the prognosis is “ok”, the pain that is felt by the family, the fear, the sleeplessness… I couldn’t imagine it myself. As a guy who finds more rest and recovery… more inspiration, at the beach than anywhere else in nature, (and I have done nature) I want to make it possible for these families to experience this opportunity to enjoy a moment in the middle of a storm. I couldn’t imagine how it would be for this family to walk through this. Which is my motivation.
Or how hard it would be to find moments like this one below, where all care is tossed out for a few moments to simply enjoy the company of one another. I want to make this possible for others. The method that Lighthouse offers is simple –
Childhood cancer impacts everyone in the family. Understandably, the child with cancer most often becomes the focus of concern, often leaving the siblings feeling lonely, insecure and left out. Lighthouse offers special attention for every member of the family moms, dads, siblings, and the child with cancer.
Our program offers fun, family-centered activities to help them feel like a family again. For children, time spent playing in a carefree environment is essential. For parents a daily group meeting, Common Ground, provides a safe place to share with others living through similar life challenges.
Highlights of a Lighthouse Family Retreat experience include families spending time together, moms and dads getting away for a special date night, kids having a blast at an UNbirthday party, incredible beach and pool games that everyone participates in, a Hollywood night, a dance party under the stars and a talent show that tops all talent shows.
I would love for you to join me by donating anything you can to this cause, and I’ll match it to someone else. I would love for you to furthermore, consider investing time in becoming a serving family, check it out - https://www.lighthousefamilyretreat.org/
