Do you let yourself go? Many people talk about getting ready for the summer, and I totally understand. Pool. Beach. Who wants to LOOK their worst when they are in a bathing suit. But there are two flaws with this thinking (well, there are probably a half dozen at least, but I am speaking to two specific ones).
- Health is not how you look.
- Summer time is a great time to eat garbage.
LOL – I find myself laughing at my own statements. Easily amused, easily amused.
By the way, even though number 1 is very true, I have found that so many people hope, and expect that health pursuit will result in looking better naked, that it has become kind of a benchmark measure for how it is working. I must say, you need to get that benchmark off of the bench, and put it down towards the bottom of the list. I say this because so many people who have let their HORMONES slide, will have a very difficult time getting that change in image in the time they are hoping to get it.
OK, lets get on track. So obviously if health is not how you look, it must be how you feel, right? So lets judge by how we feel… and then what do we do when we are in a state of heart disease, and we feel nothing? Do we assume we are healthy, even though it is obviously not true? You see the reality is that we ought to feel pretty darn good… but it doesn’t mean we are healthy. So what is health?
If you know me at all, you know what I am going to say. It isn’t measured in anything you can test in your body, it is measured by the pursuits that you choose. There is more value to faith in measuring health than in anything else. Diagnostics will fail repeatedly in underscoring what health really is.
I eat garbage. Not a lot of it, but more in the summer than the rest of the year. Why? Because it is part of the social behavior in our world. I choose ice cream over cake or cookies. Reason being that it is loaded with fat, and you can select a pretty healthy version that will minimize artificial ingredients, but overall have a significantly lower glycemic effect. What about the dairy? I love dairy… not unclean dairy like most ice cream, but there is value to dairy, and though the unclean stuff shouldn’t be your life very often… neither should artificial colors, or preservatives associated with baked goods.
If you want to eat garbage like me, and make it a little less garbage, give yourself a ninety minute lead time, and make your own ice cream. It is really not hard at all, just follow the link.
You might be wondering at this time, if I actually have a point to this whole discussion. And I actually DO have a point. My point is that there will be times when you can easily be strict in your lifestyle. And times when it is an uphill battle. Only you will truly know those times. BUT, I can tell you, it is always wise to go aggressive at it when the world is in your corner. And when the world is stacked against you, it might not be best to try to get it done. It really depends on your situation and your level of commitment.
I hope and pray for the best for you, and that you will NOT live your life looking in the mirror wondering why you are the way you are. Self guilt and low self image have no place in the world of health and faith. September we will be going all out with the 60 Day Turnaround launch. Leading up to that, I will run around town hosting introductory workshops. If you would like one at your office, church, etc. Even if you are five hours away and willing to do a webcast. I am your guy.
Looking forward to the start of the 60 Day Turnaround!
