Remember learning about pink slime? Do you remember that? McDonald’s meat processing was dubbed as pink slime thanks to the ammonium hydroxide wash used to process meat. The filler that was the so called meat in a McDonald’s chicken, or beef product. The real important thing to recall, is that this was not yesterday that you first heard of this.
The effort for change, is a long effort, one that takes years. It takes not only educating the public, that was obviously not enough. It takes being a thorn in the side. Jamie Oliver continued to teach people. If you look at his story – Jamie Oliver Wikipedia you will see he has been on the path of organic food, for years. This path led him to the Food Revolution, and from there into the depths of American food.
So then… the WIN? McDonald’s has agreed to make a change. After years of saying that their meat was the highest quality, and that there would be no change in process, because the standard was impeccable. They are now basically admitting that they were lying, and they are now going to go back and change the formula, because it was obviously NOT the “highest quality” they could offer.
No kidding. The horrible part, is that they are moving to a healthier meat, and the likelihood is that they will receive more positive press for this, vs negative press… which is what it deserves!
You see, if we read between the lines, we should see a screaming outright lie that has been exposed. And for this, McDonald’s deserves no more money. They should not ever receive one of your “voting” dollars ever again. My family has chosen no McDonald’s for 15 + years. To join us, and to declare war against the companies that have ignored any concern over food quality. If for no other reason, at least to make a stand for your health.

Oliver repeatedly explained to the public, over several years – in documentaries, television shows and interviews – that the fatty parts of beef are “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process, according to the presenter, the food is deemed unfit for human consumption. According to the chef and hamburger enthusiast, Jamie Oliver, who has undertaken a war against the fast food industry, “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”
On the official website of McDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products. But if “pink slime” was really the “best quality” that McDonalds can muster in the US, then why were they able do better in Latin America and Europe? More to the point, why can they apparently do better now in the United States?
