Well its true. I am actually sitting in bed typing this at the Holiday Inn outside of Columbus OH. I am assuming over the last eight years you have seen one of the commercials.
“No, I am not a doctor, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night”
Suggesting that staying at such an awesome hotel allows you the ability to accomplish tasks that mere mortals would simply crash and burn at. Some of these are really funny, like the one below.
Have you ever felt this way? Like everything is just clicking? As if the day was lined up specifically just for you, and everyone and everything you come in contact with has your name written all over it? I am sure you have. We all have days like this, and though they may seem few and far between, we do remember them.
I’d like to propose that these days are partially in your control. I have taught a workshop based on principles that Dr. Ben Lerner had written about in the book “Body By God” over a decade ago. Principles designed to lead you to peace building life. But in that, there is one area, that I truly believe we can gain great control over our lives if we focus on it.
Why we live. Work, Marry, have children, play… Mission. I have kept my mission front and center for a dozen years, and it has helped me so much. At times, I know that a patient, or a gym member, or a 60 Day Participant would wish that my mission wasn’t so broad, but that my mission was simply…
to have a great practice…
to have a great gym…
because that would serve the person in the practice or in the gym better. But my mission requires reaching people in all areas, in all walks, and driving them to an idea of better health and life.
To change the way the world perceives (sees) health, while showing honor and glory to God and my family.
Pursuit of the mission is what leads to being in line with your day. VS flowing along in whichever direction the world pushes you. And Stanley has preached on several occasions on the ideas that help drive this to completion.
- There is a cumulative benefit to small deposits of time, into specific areas of life. Fitness, relationships, skills (sports, musical instruments, etc).
- There is no real value in any one deposit of time into these areas (the accumulation is key).
- There is also a cumulative affect of neglect in these areas.
- Most importantly – there is no way to make up for lost time in these areas. No “cramming” that can overcome neglect.
The key to becoming the Holiday Inn Express commercial come to life, is to live with intention everyday. Living with intention starts the moment you wake up, and it controls all of the minutes of the day. I thank God that we can think about legacy, and our children and their children. I sometimes wonder how what I do now, might impact them one day. I hope you occasionally consider the same.
Be well and Be blessed! - Dr. E
