We are very blessed here in Georgia to have the warm weather already and we all know the heat will soon be here. So now is the time to get outside and be active, enjoy the bright sun when its not unbearably hot. As I said last week, my family was all dealing with the flu, and we’re all pretty much over it now besides some lingering coughing. Even though we weren’t all 100% yet, we took a hike up Kennesaw Mountain. It was a perfect day for it, which was evident by the 1000 other people that were there enjoying the hike as well. It was great to get outside, and get some fresh air, and get the heart rate up, and get some heavy breathing to really help clean out our lungs and get some exercise. To make it even more of a workout, do what we did and bring a young child that will beg to be carried up half the hill (pictured above) and a 1 year old 60 lbs. puppy that will help pull you up the mountain, but will also give you a few scares on the descent. We don’t get out and hike too often because of our busy schedules with soccer and hockey, but it really is something fun to do outside, that pretty much anyone can do. I’d really encourage you to make a point of getting outside for some kind of activity during this spring.
If hiking isn’t your thing, try something new. I just recently signed up for an adult soccer league. I’m pretty active with doing Crossfit 3-5 times a week so I’m not doing it because I need to, but because I love playing soccer and it’s been a very long time since I’ve played in a real league. So I’m pretty excited about getting back into it. I think it is so crucial to find a type of exercise that you love. Exercising for just the sake of exercising is very difficult to stay committed to (not impossible, just hard). Finding something you love just makes it so much better. This is why I’ve been able to keep going with Crossfit, as much as it is just exercising, the community and the competition (mainly with myself) make it interesting and keeps me wanting to go back for more. If you don’t have that sport or activity you really love, its worth it to try out some new things, I’m sure there’s a great exercise out there that you’ll fall in love with.
Again, get out there and enjoy this beautiful weather we’re having right now. If you don’t believe that we’re blessed with this weather, check out this image from Dr. Eric when he was visiting our hometown in Lockport, NY. eek!
