I get very frustrated when talking with the average germophobe. I can understand where the fear comes from, it makes sense to me that people get built up with the idea that germs are bad. Have you seen the new virus discussion coming out of Brazil regarding the Zika virus causing microcephaly? I don’t want children to be born with reduced brain function.
But I also don’t want anybody freaking out about germs.
The moment we freak out about the germ, is the moment we don’t care what kind of steps we take to kill the germ. It’s like when I say I don’t care about your pain, because the moment I turn my focus to your pain, is the moment I take my focus away from your health. One will result in the other, but it is not a two way street.
For example, the image above with the house mom spraying DDT in her home to kill insects. Do you think she had any idea that decades later, the study wouuld find that her daughter, whom she was carrying while spraying that DDT, would be four times more likely to develop breast cancer as an adult? That from a recent study, showing that exposure to DDT in utero has resulted in women being 4 times more likely to develop breast cancer.
The report provides one of the strongest links yet between exposure to DDT – still widely used globally – and cancer. It’s especially reliable because the researchers found 50-year-old blood samples to show how much DDT was in the pregnant women’s systems, rather than rely on possibly faulty memories or other indirect measurements.
“Environmental chemicals have long been suspected causes of breast cancer, but until now, there have been few human studies to support this idea,” said Barbara Cohn of the Public Health Institute in Berkeley, California, who worked on the study.
noun a person with an extreme fear of germs and an obsession with cleanliness. “I’m not a germophobe, but everyone knows that hotel remote controls are never cleaned and are probably filthy”
The movie Unacceptable Levels was played in our office and is available in our office to take home to watch. In this documentary, the discussion of 80,000 chemicals in our market, and the typical 200 chemicals that we come in contact with everyday, will enlighten you as to why the germ might just be a better antagonist than the thing that kills it.
It reminds me to ask the question, “have I ever told you about the scientific study I conducted in my lab class during my chiropractic degree training,? The biggest issue relative to general infection and health, is the concern over strep and staph. So I swabbed 36 throats of individuals with no symptoms, and with no known history of strep or staph. Stained slides over the next three weeks.
Every one showed positive levels of strep and staph. Meaning, your problem is not the germ, it is that “you can’t handle the germ.”
The zika virus is proving that right now. The people being affected cannot handle the germ. They don’t have the immune systems to fight this off. And I am not referring to the pregnant people getting it, the immune system of these in utero babies is of course not enough. But the spread of the virus is happening fast through the inability of the human body, when not strong. And strength in your immune system comes from being exposed to other viruses over time… not being scared of the germ!
Go get dirty, go get real world on you. Then you might just…
