Ear infections and Chiropractic
By Dr. Sheyda Isazadeh
Today it is common to see children with ear infections. Unfortunately it has also become common to see children get tubes in their ears to avoid these infections.
In children Eustachian tube connects the ear canal to the throat and is shorter and more horizontal which increases the chance that the tube could get blocked and fail to drain fluid. This fluid becomes an ideal medium for bacteria to grow in.
Signs of a child having ear infection include irritability, fever nasal, tugging on the ear, congestion, coughing, and sleep disturbance. It is common for it to occur during the teething process. The medical approach for this is administration of antibiotics and inserting a tube through the tympanic membrane to drain fluid. CDC reports one and three antibiotic prescriptions is unnecessary. The human body is so amazing your skin is capable of producing an antibiotic called Dermcidin which is strong enough to kill tuberculosis germs. However, there’s a 40% chance of recurring episodes. 80% of the infections resolvewithin 10 days. Other ways to naturally treat your infections include using probiotics, avoiding toxins, breast-feeding and other immune boosting protocols such as chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments can realign the eustachian tube in relationship to the atlas, which is the top vertebrae of the spine. A subluxation puts pressure on the eustachian tube which blocks drainage.
Factors that lead to ear infections may include premature birth, breech presentation, and exclusive formula feeding. Chiropractic allows the body’s ability to drain fluid through the channels without piercing the eardrum and the immune system to function optimally.
