Today is Day One, well it is likely not the starting day for my participants in the 60 Day Turnaround, because they will show up tonight and need a day of planning, but today is really what it is all about. Commitment day. I believe that this diet, which some find to be ridiculously hard (and others not at all), is all about one day.
One day to decide. One day to commit. After 16 years of this, I have come to understand that people don’t take enough time to consider commitment. It seems like a good plan, I think I can do this, so I will. Then three weeks later failure happens. This is the reason for so many failures in the middle of January, or by early February. Resolution seems to often carry little resolve.
Commitment Day. My commitments are greater than my feelings in this moment. My future is more important than my now, and my ability to stay committed is proportionately related to my willingness to :
- consider this step
- transparently share my goal
- transparently share my difficulty
- pause and remind myself that my commitments are greater than my feelings in this moment
I will ask 50 people tonight to forget about themselves for 60 days in light of themselves. Just dump all of the stuff that usually matters for the future of you.
“But the superbowl…. beer, chips….”
Seriously. One day? One day? Tradition destroys so much potential. We are weak in our minds over the control of our bodies. We are weak. I am weak. You are weak. We all have weakness. Weakness is conquered by commitment. Commitment works when we really lay out our plans.
“When I get to this point, I know I will be challenged, but I will be strong. I will prepare these foods so that I have substitutions that will work, and I will tell everybody involved ahead of time that I have made a commitment, so that I am held accountable and supported for my efforts”.
